World Brain Tumor Day 2022 will be observed on Wednesday, 8 June this year. It’s an annual event to increase awareness and educate people about the causes, symptoms, and treatment of brain tumors. On this day, people pay tribute to brain tumor patients, their families, as well as scientists and health professionals involved in this field. Various seminars, conferences, and fundraiser events are organised across the world on this day.<\/p>\n

World Brain Tumor Day 2022 Theme<\/h3>\n

This year, the theme for the World Brain Tumor Day is “Together We Are Stronger.”<\/p>\n

World Brain Tumor Day History<\/h2>\n

In 2000, Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe, a non-profit organisation based in Leipzig (Germany), declared 8 June as World Brain Tumor Day. Since then, this day is celebrated worldwide, including in India, to raise awareness about brain tumors.<\/p>\n

What is Brain Tumor?<\/h3>\n

Brain tumor refers to the mass or growth of abnormal cells in the brain. It can be cancerous (malignant) or non-cancerous (benign), and it may start in the brain, or can spread to the brain via cancer elsewhere in the body. The symptoms of brain tumors may include strong headaches, blurred vision, loss of balance, confusion, and seizures. So far, no specific cause of brain tumors has been identified, but many doctors believe long exposure to radiation such as X-rays may lead to a brain tumor. Scientists and doctors are still working on finding out the exact causes of brain tumors.<\/p>\n

World Brain Tumor Day Significance<\/h3>\n

A study from the International Association of Cancer Registries (IARC) states that over 28,000 cases of brain tumors are reported in our country every year. Out of which, around 24,000 succumb to this deadly disease. World Brain Tumor Day is a step toward increasing awareness about brain tumors and finding a cure for this deadly disease. Across the world, organisations are working together with an objective to prevent, screen, diagnose and treat the disease.<\/p>\n
