UGC, also known as University Grants Commission, recently brought an entrance exam into the eyes of the students. It is called the <\/span>Common University Entrance Test (CUET)<\/span>. The UGC has also announced that this exam will be common to get admitted into central universities’ UG programs.<\/span><\/p>\n

It means that the 12<\/span>th<\/span>-grade marks will not be considered an entrance ticket anymore, to get admission into top universities. Also, this exam is going to be the first-ever common examination for getting admission into Undergraduate programs in central universities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now that we have seen how important this new form of test is, let us discuss it more and help the students and parents have a clear cut idea of how it works. We will also talk about some advantages and disadvantages in the meantime in the following passages of this article.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is this CUET exam?<\/h3>\n

The full form of CUET<\/a> is the Common University Entrance Test. It is a computerised test which can be conducted in two shifts. An autonomous agency named NTA or the National Testing Agency is accountable for making the question papers for this exam and will also carry out this exam.<\/span><\/p>\n

This exam has been planned to be conducted in two slots. Slot 1 is allotted 195 minutes, while slot 2 is given 225 minutes. So, generally, this exam would take somewhere around three and half hours to complete. This exam contains multiple-choice questions. Most of these questions will be from NCERT Class 12<\/a> textbooks.<\/span><\/p>\n

This exam is the only requirement for 45 central universities across India. The 12<\/span>th<\/span>-grade marks will not be considered in those universities. It has been planned to be held in the first week of July. The chairman of UGC has mentioned this test as a student-friendly reform. It will play a key role in securing merit-based admissions in India’s top universities, such as Delhi University. In earlier days, CBSE and State Board marks were used.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The application process for this exam is usually set to start in the first week of April, giving students ample time to prepare. This test has become mandatory for UG admissions in India\u2019s central universities. Soon, they are planning to adapt the same for private, state and other institutions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A big con of this exam is that the students will receive negative marks for incorrect answers. This test is subdivided into three sections. However, it is treated as a single entrance exam for admission into universities. The main objective is to decrease the burden on the students who seek higher education.<\/span><\/p>\n
