Since the Class X Board exams focus on getting students’ fundamentals clear by testing them on their core areas, it’s important to build up a comprehensive understanding of the subject.

In this article, we have gathered some of the interesting last-minute preparation tips which will help you to ace the exam:

1. The Science paper contains THREE sections.

Section- A – This section consists of 24 single answers correct multiple-choice questions each of equal marks, out of which 20 questions should be attempted.

Section- B – This section consists of 24 single answer correct multiple-choice questions and Assertion – Reason type questions each of equal mark, out of which 20 questions should be attempted.

Section- C – This section consists of 12 single answers correct multiple-choice questions based on a Case Study each of equal marks, out of which 10 questions should be attempted.

2. As per NCERT, some chapters/topics have been deleted in Science. So, it is necessary to understand the reduced syllabus and thoroughly practice the question based on it. For example-

In Chemistry, more weightage is given to ‘Acids, Bases and Salts’ followed by ‘Chemical Reactions and Equations’ and then to ‘Metals and Non-metals.

In Biology, only one chapter is given i.e., ‘Life Processes’. So make sure to mug up every line of this chapter carefully.

In Physics, more weightage is given to the chapter ‘Light: – Reflection and Refraction’ followed by ‘Human Eye and Colourful World

3. Maximum weightage is given to the chemistry section followed by physics and then biology.

4. The pattern of the paper contains case study-based questions and assertion and reason type questions along with the previously asked single answer MCQs. So, it’s a must for students to read all the given questions carefully and then attempt questions accordingly.

5. While preparing, your approach should be objective and focus on the lines of NCERT texts.

6. The summary of each lesson should be carefully memorized.

7. One may create Mnemonics to recall factual data.

8. Flowcharts should be created to remember concepts in a concise manner ensuring revision in less time using flashcards.

9. Solved Examples and back exercises from NCERT of each chapter must be practiced.

10. In physics, formulae should be tabulated in such a manner that it is easy to remember and use proper sign convention to solve the numerical problems wherever required.

11. In biology and chemistry, the labelling of diagrams/reactions should be practiced as both diagrams/reactions-based questions can be asked based on the sample paper.

12. Assertion reason type of question should be practiced carefully.

13. Practice case study questions from important topics like Physics – Refraction of light passing through glass slab, prism, spherical lens, Dispersion of white light through a glass prism, Refraction of light travelling from one medium to another, Biology – Nutrition and Transportation, Chemistry – types of reactions given in Chemical Reactions and Equations, Acids, Bases, and Salts.

14. Practice the available Model Test Papers based on a new pattern.

Therefore, students should go through all the sample questions that were asked in the previous years. The questions may not be repetitive, but it would be really helpful for candidates to understand the exam pattern and ace the exam. Another important tip is to ensure that you attempt all questions in a neat & tidy manner and revise the answers thoroughly before submitting them. All the best!

Science is one of the most intriguing subjects if one develops a firm hold of it.
