Along with the IIT JEE preparation strategy, study tips, and tricks, it\u2019s equally important to pay attention to common mistakes candidates make while preparing for the JEE Exam<\/a>. Students can considerably increase their JEE marks and level up their rank by not making the following mistakes.<\/p>\n

1. Forgetting to stick to the JEE Syllabus<\/a><\/u><\/span><\/h2>\n

The JEE Exam will never test your comprehension of various topics that are not a part of the syllabus. While preparing for the exam, it is very easy to go off track and study things that are not a part of the syllabus. This will prove to be a big waste of time and effort. So make sure you know the JEE Syllabus in and out and you do not focus on anything else other than this.<\/p>\n

2. Less attention to NCERT Books<\/u><\/span><\/h2>\n

NCERT is the bible for the candidates preparing for JEE Exam. It is the closest and most significant guide for exam preparation. There is a possibility that you will find questions based on or similar to NCERT<\/a> solved examples and back exercise questions. Some biology questions are framed directly and ditto from NCERT textbooks in JEE question papers. Taking NCERT lightly can cost you heavily and \u2018negatively\u2019 in the JEE Exam.<\/p>\n

3. Measuring progress in terms of the number of hours put in the preparation<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n

Do not count the number of hours, instead Count the number of MCQs that you were able to attempt correctly at that time. Count the number of questions that initially made you feel clueless, but now you are confident with which concept to apply in it. Eventually, it\u2019s the number of correct answers that will count in JEE Result<\/a>. Measure your progress in a given time, by the number of chapters you have managed to convert into your strengths over that time.<\/p>\n

4. Ignoring the chapters that you find hard to understand<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n

There is a phrase that says \u2018the best way to solve a problem is to face it. JEE is a national-level examination with neck-to-neck competition and marks in the merit list differing by small margins. One simply cannot afford to go easy in the JEE preparation.<\/p>\n

Ignoring a problem will only make it bigger. It is essential to rack your brains, make efforts to grasp and get a grip on the chapter, rather than running away from it. Take full advantage of technology, watch online videos by experienced educators. Understand a biological process or a concept by its 3D representation. It will help you understand, visualize and connect processes\/concepts. You can also take live classes so that your doubts are cleared at your convenient time with personal attention.<\/p>\n

5. Too many study resources<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n

Too many books are a waste of time and money. One reference book along with the chief and principal NCERT is just adequate for JEE Preparation. The reference books can be the coaching study material, which along with class teachings is an amalgamation of years of experience and hard work to present the concepts in a sure-shot and simplified manner.<\/p>\n

Do not scatter your efforts and energy on many resources, instead, concentrate on quality content and be confident about it. You can use a mix of printed books, recorded video lectures, and e-Books to understand difficult topics.<\/p>\n

6. Being under-confident <\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n

Believe in yourself, your hard work, and your guardian\u2019s blessings. Do not underestimate your efforts or be underconfident with your learning. Getting too much nervous before the exam is one mistake that directly affects the performance of the candidates in the exam.<\/p>\n

7. Not Asking Doubts<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n

Some students feel shy and lack confidence about clearing their doubts with teachers. Whereas, there are many who take mock tests but forget to analyze their results and see where they went wrong. Make sure that you make full use of the resources at your disposal. Freely approach your classroom and talk to your teacher to clear doubts.<\/p>\n

8. Not Getting Enough Sleep<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n

Make it a point to keep some time aside for leisure activities. Do not avoid your friends and not keep yourself busy in your studies all the time. Get some exercise daily. Whether playing football or going out for a walk, engage in some sort of exercise as this is going to refresh your mind. In addition to this, proper hours of sleep are also important. If you avoid distractions like TV and social media, you will have plenty of time to study and sleep well.<\/p>\n

Common Mistakes to Avoid at the JEE Examination Centre<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n

  1. Reaching your JEE Exam Centre late.<\/li>\n
  2. Forgetting to carry your JEE admit card with an affixed photograph. The photograph in the admit card should be the same as the one submitted in the JEE application form<\/li>\n
  3. Not taking the printout of postcard size photograph. This postcard size photograph should be 4×6 in size and should also have your name and date.<\/li>\n
  4. Not carrying a few extra passport size photographs, which will be collected in the examination hall<\/li>\n
  5. Carrying bared items in the examination hall<\/li>\n
  6. Feeling nervous when filling up the details on your OMR Sheet and marking the response.<\/li>\n
  7. Wasting a lot of time on difficult questions. You should rather move on to the easy questions and attempt the difficult ones at last if you are left with some time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
