When and Why Do We Celebrate World Red Cross Day

BY Team Aakash Byju's

Every year on May 8th, we observe World Red Cross Day in memory of the birth of Jean-Henry Dunant.

Jean-Henry Dunant (born on May 8, 1828) was the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

On this day, people remember and talk about the principles, values, history, and impact of the International Red Cross Movement.

On World Red Cross Day, individuals pay tribute to volunteers and associated members of the organisation.

The reason is that they are known for their humanitarian work and making the world a better place.

After World War I, several people were injured and in a bad state.

The volunteers of the Red Cross Society provided medical help, treated the injured and served them without any discrimination.

So, to remember them and show our gratitude, this day is celebrated.
