World Portuguese Language Day

On May 5th every year, people celebrate World Portuguese Language Day.

People who speak Portuguese are known as a Lusophone.

Currently, Portuguese is in 9th position in the list of most spoken languages across the globe.

The highlight of this day is to show how the Portuguese have preserved their culture and civilization.

Portuguese is believed to be one of the most widespread and spoken languages globally.

It is also true that Portuguese speakers are responsible for the initial wave of globalization.

And, this became the reason why the Portuguese language has an influence over other languages.

Ex: Many English words have Portuguese origin, such as embarrass, acai, banana, breeze, monsoon, coconut, macaw, etc.

And the best part is more than 229 million people speak Portuguese in our world.
