Cardiac arrest, heart attack and heart failure. We're all aware that these terms signify a health crisis involving the heart.

However, they are three different problems with different causes and treatments.

Heart Attack Blood flow to the heart is blocked, likely by a blood clot or a build-up of plaque in the arteries. While the heart continues to beat, it does not receive enough oxygen-rich blood.

Cardiac Arrest Triggered by a disruption of the heart's rhythm, the heart stops beating. It can lead to death within minutes.

Heart Failure In this long-term, chronic condition the heart muscle fails to pump as much blood as the body needs.
