What Causes Light to Refract?

BY Team Aakash Byju's

Light has the highest speed of anything known.

The speed of light in vacuum is about  300000 km/sec.

Speed of light in air is 299910km/sec . It is 90 km slower than the speed of light in vaccum per sec.

Refraction of Light Causes: When light travels from one medium to another, its speed changes, this change in speed of light causes refraction

Explanation : The speed of light in glass is 200000 km/sec, which is less than light in air.

So refraction (or bending) of light occurs at the boundary between the two media.

The greater the difference between the speeds of light in two media, the greater is the bending of light.
