What are the characteritics of Displacement | Class 11 Physics

BY Team Aakash Byju's

Displacement is the direct length between any two points which measure along the minimum distance between them.

It is a vector quantity, so it has both magnitude and direction .

A body can have a positive, zero, or negative displacement depending on its direction.

It can be equal to or less than distance but never greater than it.

Displacement formula  (s)= ut +½at² S =displacement U=velocity, t=time, a=acceleration, t=time.

The dimensional formula is given by[ M0 L1 T0]. Displacement has a unit of length ( meter).

Example:

A student rides his bicycle 5 kilometres to school and back home. He will reach a distance of 10 kilometres, yet his displacement will be zero.
