Bacteria: Microorganisms not able to be seen except under a microscope, found in rotten food, in air, water, soil, inside and outside of living organisms.

Bacteria are grouped into four types based on their shapes. They include: coccus, bacillus, vibrio and spirilla.

Coccus:  These are round shaped bacteria.

Bacillus:  These are rod-shaped bacteria.

Vibrio:  These are comma-shaped bacteria.

Spirilla:  These are spiral-shaped bacteria.

Bacteria are grouped into Autotrophic and Heterotrophic based on Nutrition.

Autotrophic Bacteria: Bacteria that can manufacture their food.

Heterotrophic Bacteria: Bacteria that obtain food from other organisms.

Bacteria are categorised into Aerobic and Anaerobic based on the requirement of Oxygen.

Aerobic Bacteria:   These bacteria can survive in the presence of Oxygen.

Anaerobic Bacteria: These bacteria can survive in the absence of Oxygen.

Bacteria are divided into Gram-Positives and Negatives based on the cell wall.

Gram-Positive Bacteria: These bacteria have a thick peptidoglycan layer.

Gram-Negative Bacteria: These bacteria have a lipopolysaccharide layer.
