Since 1962, September 5 has been celebrated as Teachers' day to honor his remarkable approach towards education.
In his later part of career, he served as a vice chancellor of Andhra University and Banaras Hindu University.
Dr Radhakrishnan was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the nation's highest civilian honour.
