A solar eclipse occurs when the sun, moon and earth are lined up fully or partially. Based on how they are aligned, we get to witness unique views of either the sun or the moon.

Total Solar Eclipse It occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth and completely blocks the face of the sun.  The next total solar eclipse can be seen in the U.S. on April 8, 2024.

Annular Solar Eclipse It occurs when the moon passes between the sun and earth while being at or close to the moon's farthest point from Earth. This eclipse can be seen in the U.S. on Oct. 14, 2023.

Partial Solar Eclipse The sun, moon and earth are not perfectly lined up at times when the moon passes between the sun and the earth. A partial solar eclipse will be seen on 25 October 2022.

Hybrid Solar Eclipse  At times, an eclipse shifts between annular and total as the moon's shadow traverses the earth's curved surface and causes a  hybrid solar eclipse.
