Various Forms of Energy: Explained With Examples

BY Team Aakash Byju's

Nature has provided various forms of energy for life to exist.

Types of Energy: To name a few - Solar energy, mechanical energy, chemical energy, electrical energy, nuclear energy, heat energy and light energy.

The tremendous amount of energy radiated by the sun is called solar energy.

Solar Energy

This energy produced in the sun is due to a nuclear fusion reaction.

The sun’s energy is radiated in all directions, but it cannot be used directly to do work.

However, many devices such as solar panels, solar cells, solar furnaces, etc. are invented to make use of this energy.

Mechanical energy includes kinetic energy and potential energy.

Mechanical energy

Kinetic energy is the energy possessed by an object due to its motion. Whereas, the energy possessed by an object by virtue of its position or configuration is called potential energy.

Chemical energy is the energy stored in the bonds of atoms. It is the energy that holds the atoms together.

Chemical energy

Petroleum, natural gas have stored chemical energy.

Nuclear Energy

Energy stored in the nucleus of an atom that holds the nucleus together is called nuclear energy.

The two nuclear processes are nuclear fission and nuclear fusion.

The sum of the internal kinetic energy and potential energy of an object determines the heat energy possessed by the object.

Heat energy

The temperature measures the amount of heat energy possessed by the object.

The electromagnetic radiation that travels as a transverse wave is called light energy.

Light Energy

Light is a type of visible radiant energy. The main source of light energy is solar energy.
