A force comes into play when the object has a little displacement from its original position and tries to move the object back to the equilibrium point is called 'oscillation.'

Oscillation

It consists of movement, which can happen periodically for a period of time.

Every oscillation is a periodic motion, but every periodic motion is not an oscillation.

The distraction created in a medium by its species' to and fro motion about their mean position is called a 'Wave'.

Wave

If these waves are present in a material medium such as solid, liquid or gas, they are known as 'Material waves or Elastic waves.'

Example:  Waves produced on the surface of water or in the air or stretched strings.

The transmission of energy such as sound and light when the particles of the medium move about their mean position.
