Definition

In optics, magnification is the ratio of an object height to the image height or object distance to the image distance. It is designated by M.

It confirms the possession of the image without sketching the Ray diagrams.

It is a numerical value that gives out information about the properties of an image.

Where hi = height of image ho = height of object u = object distance v = image distance

Note: The following natured images will be cast based on magnification value. If M = positive value (Real and inverted image) M = negative value (virtual and erect image)

M>1 (Enlarged image) M<1 (Diminished image)

M = 1 (same size image compare to object size) M = 0 (point sized image)
