Interesting Facts About Temperature in Physics

Scribbled Underline

Temperature is a measure of ‘heat energy’. It defines heat or cold comparison of bodies.

The common instrument used to measure temperature is a Thermometer.

Some of the known units of measuring temperature are Celsius or centigrade denoted as °C, Fahrenheit (°F) and Kelvin (K).

about temperature.

Let us study some

Interesting facts

The hottest man-made temperature ever recorded was about 4 billion degrees celsius which is 2.5105 times hotter than the temperature at the core of the sun.

The coldest theoretical temperature is called Absolute Zero which is 0 K and is equal to -273.16 °C.

The temperature of a body varies directly with the speed with which the molecules of the body are moving.

Thus, the faster the molecules move, the higher the temperature of the body will be.

There is a term called 'Triple Point' of a substance. It is the value of temperature and pressure at which a substance can exist in all 3 states, solid, liquid and gaseous.

The triple point of water is at 273.16 K or 0.01°C or 32.01°F and the pressure is at 611.2 Pa of mercury.

It is defined that  1°C = 33.8°F and you know what is an interesting fact? At -40 degrees, Fahrenheit and Celsius are equal, i.e., -40°C=-40°F.

-40°C=-40°F

The transfer of heat from a body at higher temperature to a body at lower temperature takes place through 3 different processes in 3 different states of a body.

The processes are conduction (occurs in solid), convection (occurs in liquid) & radiation (takes place through space).

So, these are some interesting and amazing facts about temperature.
