Applications Of Magnetic Effect Of Electric Current: Class 7 Notes

When an object behaves like a magnet under the influence of electric current, it is called the ‘Magnetic Effect of Electric Current’.

For example, a wire behaves like a magnet when an electric current is passing through it.

The advantage of an electromagnet is that it can be switched on or switched off as desired which is impossible in a permanent magnet.

They are used in the construction of a large number of machines like.

– Electric bells and motors – Loudspeakers – Electric fans – Toys and telephone instruments, etc.

Electromagnets are helpful in lifting weighty loads like big machines and scrap iron objects for loading and unloading purposes.

They are also useful in separating iron & steel objects from a load of scrap.

Doctors also use electromagnets to remove tiny iron particles from a person's eyes.
