National Education Day 2022: All About India’s First Education Minister

National Education Day in India is celebrated every year on 11th November to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

Abul Kalam Azad was independent India's first education minister and has made a significant contribution to India's education system.

To honour his efforts, the Ministry of Human Resource Development announced 11th November as 'National Education Day' in 2008.

The UGC, AICTE, the Kharagpur Institute for Higher Education, the University Board of Education, and the Secondary School Board were set up during Abul Kalam Azad's tenure.

He helped form educational institutions such as Jamia Millia Islamia and IIT Kharagpur.

He established the Sahitya Academy, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and the Scientific Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

He was awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously, India's highest civilian honour, in 1992.
