What Is the Difference Between Horizontal & Vertical Line

BY Team Aakash Byju's

In the coordinate plane, a horizontal line is a straight line that goes from left to right or right to left parallel to the x-axis.

Horizontal Line

Vertical Line

A vertical line is a straight line that travels from top to bottom or bottom to top and runs parallel to the y-axis.

A horizontal line is a straight line with an  x-axis intercept but no y-axis intercept.

A vertical line is a straight line with a  y-axis intercept but no x-axis intercept.

Horizontal lines are known as sleeping lines.

Vertical lines are known as standing lines.

Horizontal lines are parallel to the y-axis in coordinate geometry.

Vertical lines are parallel to the x-axis in coordinate geometry.

Horizontal  Line Equation

The equation of a horizontal line is  y = b or y = -b where b is constant.

 Vertical Line Equation

The equation of a vertical line is   x =a or x = -a  where a is constant.
