Step-By-Step Guide to Solve Equivalent Fractions Maths Questions

A Fraction can be defined as a number representing a relationship between a part and the whole.

Equivalent Fractions are fractions that have equal values even though they have different numerators and denominators.

We can determine whether a given fraction is equivalent or not by the following methods :

Multiplication method:

The numerator and denominator are multiplied by the same number.

Division Method:

The numerator and denominator are divided by the same number.

There are several ways for identifying whether the provided fractions are equivalent. Some of them are discussed below.

Making the denominators the same:

In this procedure, the denominators' LCMs are calculated and multiplied by a number to make the denominator identical to the LCM.

Decimal Form:

In this method, we simply determine the decimal form of both the fractions.

Cross Multiplication Method:

In this method, we cross multiply the fractions to verify whether they are equivalent.

Visual Method:

In this method, we represent the fractions in pictorial identical shapes and check if the shaded portions are equivalent.

Equivalent fractions charts serve as a handy reference for calculations and are easier to understand.
