Perimeter of a Triangle
The sum of the measures of all the sides is called the perimeter of a triangle.
Perimeter of a triangle = sum of all the sides
The sum of the measures of the angles of a triangle is 180 degrees.
Triangles are classified into three types
1. Equilateral triangle
2. Isosceles triangle
3. Scalene triangle
Equilateral Triangle
A triangle whose sides are equal in length is called an equilateral triangle.
Perimeter of an Equilateral Triangle
Perimeter of an equilateral triangle = 3 x side
Example
Find the perimeter of an equilateral triangle whose side is 4cm.
Isosceles Triangle
A triangle in which two sides are equal in length is called an isosceles triangle.
Isosceles Triangle
In an isosceles triangle the unequal side is called the base of the triangle.
The base angles of an isosceles triangle are equal
Perimeter of an Isosceles Triangle
Example
What is the perimeter of an isosceles triangle whose sides are 6cm and 9cm.
Scalene Triangle
If no two sides are equal in length then it is called a scalene triangle.
Perimeter of Scalene Triangle
Example
Find the perimeter of a scalene triangle whose sides are 10cm, 2cm and 14cm.
