How to Use Surface Area of a Cylinder Formula: Explained With Example
BY Team Aakash Byjus
Surface Area of Cylinder
The surface area of a cylinder can be defined as the amount of space covered by the flat surfaces of the bases of its curved surface.
The cylinder's overall surface area is made up of two parts:
1. A curved surface area
2. Two flat surface areas.

The surface area of a cylinder can be divided into two types:
1. Total surface area (TSA)
2. Curved surface area (CSA)
Total Surface Area of Cylinder
The total surface area of the cylinder is calculated by adding the area of the two bases and the area of the curved surface.
Total Surface Area of Cylinder formula
TSA = Area of two bases + Area of the curved surface.
Example:
Find the Total surface area (TSA) of a cylinder of radius 5 cm and height 7 cm.
Curved Surface Area of Cylinder
A curved surface area of a cylinder is the area covered entirely by its curved surface.
Curved Surface Area of Cylinder formula
The curved surface area of the cylinder = 2πrh
Example:
Find the Curved surface area of a cylinder of radius 7 cm and height 14 cm.
