Cube

A cube is a  3-dimensional solid object with 6 square faces, twelve edges, and eight vertices. Since the cube has six faces, we can call it a regular hexahedron.

Surface Area of a Cube

The surface area of the cube is defined as the sum of the area of the bases and the area of lateral surfaces.

Green Leaf Banner

The surface area of a cube can be divided into two categories.

- Total surface area

- Lateral surface area

Total Surface Area of a Cube (TSA)

The total surface area of a cube is defined as the sum of the areas of all sides of a cube, including its top and bottom bases.

Example

What is the surface area of a cube of side 4cm?

Lateral Surface Area of Cube (LSA)

The lateral surface area of a cube is defined as the sum of the areas of all sides of a cube except its top and bottom bases.

Lateral Surface Area of Cube formula

Example

Find the lateral surface area of a cube with an area of one face 64cm square. Also, find the length of the side.

Volume

Volume is defined as the amount of space occupied by an object.

Volume of a Cube

The total  three-dimensional space occupied by a cube is defined as its volume.

Volume of a Cube Formula

The volume of a cube can be calculated by multiplying the edge length by three.
