Different Types of Graphical Representation | Maths Exam Concept Note

Line Graphs

A line graph displays the continuous data and is useful for predicting future events over time.

Line Plot

It displays the frequency of data on a given number line. ‘x’ is placed above a number line each time when that data recurs.

Number of cars sold

Bar Graphs

Bar Graph is used to display the category of data with rectangular bars with heights proportional to the values that they represent.

Birthday of students by months

Histograms

Here all bars have the same width. They represent the organised group of data points into user-specified ranges.

Tree Heights

Frequency Table

It is a table that lists items and shows the number of times the items occur.

It shows the percentage distribution of data. It divides a circle into a series of segments.

Circle Graph/Pie Chart

It is a table with 2 columns. The 'stem' is shown on the left side of the table and shows the first digit of data values.

Stem and Leaf Plot

The 'leaf' is shown on the right side of the table and represents the last digit of the data value.

Box and Whisker Plot

It divides the data into four parts and displays the five-number summary of a set of data.

– Minimum – First quartile – Median – Third quartile and – Maximum
