8 Types of Matricies in Mathematics With Examples

As the name suggests, it has only one row but any number of columns.

Row Matrix:

Column Matrix:

As the name suggests, it has any number of rows but only one column.

Square Matrix:

A matrix in which the number of rows and columns are the same.

Rectangular Matrix:

Here, the number of rows and columns are not equal to each other.

Diagonal matrix:

It is a type of square matrix where all non-diagonal elements are zero.

Scalar Matrix:

If the diagonal elements of a diagonal matrix are equal (a non-zero constant), it is said to be a 'scalar matrix'.

Unit or Identity Matrix:

A scalar matrix in which the diagonal elements are 1, is called a 'unit matrix' and is denoted as I.

Zero or Null Matrix:

A matrix in which all elements are zero, is called to be within zero or null matrix.
