If the given number is a decimal
If the given number is a fraction
Now, let us learn how to find the percentage of a given number. Suppose, 260 represents 100% and we need to find what number is 45% of 260.
Step 1: Multiply the whole number by the percentage.
260 x 45 = 11,700
Step 2: Now, divide this result by 100 to get the number that represents 45% of the whole.
Now, if 30% of a number is 186 and asked you to calculate the whole original number, then
Step 1: Multiply 200 by 100 to get 18600
Step 2: Divide this result by 30 to get 620. So, 620 is the number(100%) whose 30% is 186.
To find percentage increase:If the number 120 is increased by 30%, then
Step 1: Convert the percentage into decimal form by dividing it by 100. So, 30% converted to decimal
Step 2: Then multiply the original number by 0.3 to know by what amount 120 is increased.
Step 3: Now, add this number to the original number to get the increased amount.
To find percentage increase :If the number 120 is decreased by 30%, then in the last step instead of adding the numbers, subtract the amount from the original number.
