Britishers discovered tea in India in the 1800s and cultivated it in huge quantities.

Around the 1780s, they got tea seeds from China and started to cultivate the plant in India.

Later, it was seen growing wild in Brahmaputra Valley by Sir Joseph Banks, an English Botanist.

Around 1823, the cultivated Indian tea was transported to England for selling in public.

 It was explored and realised that growing tea at the foothills of the Himalayas was feasible. Henceforth, India started its mass production.
