On 16 September 1987, governments adopted the Montreal Protocol to control and reduce ozone-depleting substances.
The theme for the 2022 International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is ‘Global cooperation protecting life on Earth.’
This day is observed to protect the ozone layer and control total global production and consumption with the ultimate objective of elimination on the basis of developments.
Without the Montreal Protocol ban on CFCs, Earth’s carbon sink might have led to an additional increase of 0.5 – 1ºC of global warming.
The Montreal protocol and its Kigali Amendment promote the adoption of climate-friendly and energy-efficient cooling technologies.
