Instruments Used To Measure Length In Physics

There are many measuring tools created with many variations based on the needs like the level of accuracy, shape and the materials used to measure.

Instruments used to measure are:  Ruler, Roll Metre, Measuring tape, Calliper, Screw Gauge and Digital Meter.

Ruler

It is the most common tool used with an accuracy level of 1 mm. Sizes of 30 cm to 1 m can be measured with this.

They are equipped with 2 units centimetres & inches. It can reach up to 30 m with an accuracy of 1 mm.

Roll Metre

It is often used by tailors to measure parts of the consumer’s body. The material is smooth and flexible.

Measuring Tape

To measure the thickness of paper, steel plate, or other metal plates, with an accuracy up to 0.1 mm we use the instrument Calliper.

Calliper

It helps to measure the objects that are of microscopic sizes with an accuracy of 0.01 millimetres.

Screw gauge

It measures the distance of an object using a digital mechanism. The object emits sound waves which will later bounce back towards the tool.

Digital Metre

The reflected wave is captured and the distance will be displayed on the LCD monitor.
