According to the Mine Act, 1952,  women would not be allowed to work in any underground mines.

Soon, she and her father filed a petition because no engineering college would grant her admission in mining engineering.

In 1996, Chandrani got admission in the mining engineering course in Ramdeobaba Engineering College, Nagpur.

Despite being the university topper, Chandrani was not selected for any mining job because she was a female.

She started working as a lecturer in her college and continued to acquire more degrees in mining.

In 2006, she completed her Master’s in Mining Engineering and completed her PhD in 2015.

She is now working as a Senior Scientist at CSIR and is incorporating her passion for her job seamlessly with new challenges at work.
