How Many Stars Are There in the Space?

Many times you would have looked up into the sky at the night and wondered about how many stars there are in space?

We can see a few thousand individual stars with your naked eyes and a million more when viewed through a modest amateur telescope.

So, the answer to how many stars are there in space is even more difficult for scientists to give a fair answer!

Stars are gathered together into vast groups called Galaxies. The 'Milky Way' is the name of the galaxy to which our Sun belongs.

We can’t see all the galaxies as light travels at a finite speed. We see the galaxies from that, whatever you count the stars.

As per the astronomers, Milky Way itself has about 100 thousand million stars and there are about 1011 or 1012 galaxies in the universe.

We can conclude that there are about 1022 to 1024 stars in the Universe.

The European Space Agency, Gaia, will be launching a mission soon to provide a more reliable estimate of the question "How many stars are there in the Universe?"
