What Is Eid-Al-Fitr and Why Is It Important?

The word ‘Eid’, in Islam, means ‘celebration’ or ‘festival’.

As per the Prophet Muhammad’s guidance, in Islam, they celebrate Eid twice.

They are  Eid-ul-Fitr and the other is Eid ul-Adha.

Eid-ul-Fitr follows Ramadan which is the ninth month of the Islamic(lunar) calendar.

Ramadan is a holy month for all Muslims to renew their focus on spiritual life and its practice in daily life.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan month.

Eid-ul-Fitr is officially celebrated on the first day of Shawwal – the 10th month of the year.

On this day, one wakes up early & greets the family, performing ablution (ghusl), wearing new attires.

The next is to perform prayers (Salah), sit with family, and have food together.

Visiting families and friends is also a ritual.

Eid-ul-Fitr & Eid-ul-Adha are the times at which Allah rejoices in his followers being happy & encourages joy amongst all.

The last ten days of Ramadan are believed to bring a thousand months’ worth of blessings.
