Class 10th Geometry: What is Horizontal line? Explained with Examples

BY Team Aakash Byju's

– A horizontal line is a straight line in a coordinate plane that runs from left to right or right to left and is parallel to the x-axis. – "sleeping lines" are also called horizontal lines.

Horizontal line Equation: – The equation of a horizontal line is y = k, where k is the constant. – The slope of the horizontal line is always '0' since all horizontal lines have the same slope.

The following are some examples of horizontal line equations:  y = 3  y = -2  y = 7

Slope of Horizontal line When we compare the provided equation to the slope-intercept form of the line equation, we get: y = mx + c and y = k m = 0.

As a result, the horizontal line's slope is always equal to zero.

We need to know the measurements of points to construct a horizontal line (i.e. x and y value).

How do you make a horizontal line?

The point in the XY plane can now be located.

Example:  Draw the horizontal line  y = 3, y = -2, y = 4

Example of a horizontal line – Steps on the staircase – Planks on the railway tracks.
