Which Compounds Are Responsible For The Depletion Of Ozone Layer?

– Chlorofluorocarbons CFCs – Hydrocarbons – Strong halogens like chlorine  – N2O etc.

The compounds that are the reasons for the depletion of the Ozone layer are:

The synthetic chemicals and chlorofluorocarbons consist of halogens as free radicals that are the main reason for the ozone layer depletion.

CFCs at higher altitudes release chlorine in the presence of UV light which is hazardous to the ozone layer.

The chlorine reacts with the ozone layer to convert into an oxygen molecule and thus destroys the layers of ozone.

The radical produced by a photo-induced reaction of carbon and chlorine bond is a long-lived radical in the atmosphere.

Thus, CFCs are the chemical compounds that destroy the earth's precious and protective layer.

Further, halogen like bromine is also unsafe to the ozone layer.
