What Happens When CH3NH2 Reacts With NaNO2 HCl?

Do you know that the dyed products are formed using a dying agent such as Diazonium salt?

The Diazonium salt and methyl alcohol are the products of reaction between Methylamine (CH3NH2), Sodium nitrite (NaNO2) and hydrochloric acid (HCl).

So, when methylamine reacts with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid, it forms an unstable salt Methyl Diazonium.

A diazonium is nothing but an organic compound that has two nitrogen atoms linked together.

Further, methyl diazonium being unstable decomposes into cation and reacts vigorously with water.
