Unsaturated Vs Saturated Vs Supersaturated Solutions

Unsaturated Solutions

These are the solutions in which more solute can be dissolved at a given temperature.

The addition of solute is possible only till the solution reaches the saturation point.

An example of an unsaturated solution is the addition of a teaspoon of chocolate syrup to a glass of milk.

Saturated Solutions

A solution that has an adequate amount of solute and adding any extra solute is left undissolved.

Soda is an example of a saturated solution of carbon dioxide in water.

Supersaturated Solutions

If a solution contains more dissolved solute than in the saturated solution at a given temperature, it is called Supersaturated.

Carbonated water, honey or sugar syrup are some examples of supersaturated solutions.
