Iron is a chemical element whose atomic symbol is Fe and atomic number is 26 in the periodic table.

Properties of Iron: Iron is basically solid in nature at 20 °C and is in the form of ferrite or  α-form.

Its electron configuration is [Ar] 3d64s2 and its atomic mass is 55.845 u.

It rusts in the wet air, but not in the dry air. Iron dissolves in dilute acids readily.

It has melting & boiling points of  2800 °F & 5182 °F, respectively. Iron is a metal that is magnetic in nature.

Uses of Iron: It is used in the production of steel. It is also used in making bridges, bicycle chains, cutting tools, etc..

Cast iron that contains  3-5% carbon is useful for pipes, pumps, and valves. Using the iron, its alloys and its compound magnets can be made.

Iron is used in the manufacture of cars, trucks, buses, trains, etc…

It is also used to produce appliances like refrigerators, washing machine, stove, dishwasher, etc…
