Formation Of Nitric Acid From Nitre And Sulphuric Acid Equation

The reaction can be shown below:

Nitric acid can be formed by heating nitre or potassium nitrate with concentrated sulphuric acid.

In the above reaction, an organic compound with the formula HNO3 is called 'Nitric Acid'.

KNO3 + H2SO4 → KHSO4 + HNO3

KNO3 is known as nitre which is potassium nitrate and H2 SO4 is the Sulphuric acid.

The reaction is usually carried out at a temperature less than 200oC.

Above this temperature, nitric acid decomposes to form nitrogen dioxide.
