What Is a Neutralisation Reaction? Give Examples

Chemistry Class 10:

BY Team Aakash Byju's

When an acid reacts with a base, the excess amount of hydroxyl ions present in a base neutralises the hydrogen (ag) ions present in the acid.

As the acid and base neutralise their effect, their reaction forms salt and water. This is called a neutralisation reaction.

When hydrochloric acid reacts with sodium hydroxide solution, the products formed are salt and water.

Example 1

We know that metallic oxides and hydroxides are bases.

Example 2

Copper(II) hydroxide reacts with sulphuric acid, and the products formed are Copper(II) Sulphate and water.
