CBSE Revision Notes for Class 12th Maths Chapter 4: Determinants

We have prepared these revision notes on ‘Determinants’ as per the syllabus guided by the CBSE board. Have a look at these points:

Start with learning the definition of Determinants and Square matrices.

Study these types of determinants with examples.

– First order determinant – Second order determinant  – Third order determinant

There are a total of 9 properties of determinants. You need to learn how to verify each property of determinants with the help of examples.

Learn the topics like the ‘Area of triangle’, ‘Absolute value of the determinant’ and note that the area of the triangle formed by three collinear points is zero.

Next is to learn what Minors are and how it is represented and learn how to find the minor of a determinant.

Study Cofactor of an element, how it can be represented and how to find the cofactors of a matrix.

Finding an 'Adjoint' of a matrix or 'Transpose' of a matrix is also important. You will see four theorems under this topic; they must be part of revision notes.

Learn what are Singular and Non-singular matrices and learn some examples to illustrate these.

Now, let’s start adding notes for ‘Applications of Determinants and Matrices’. Know what are ‘consistent’ and ‘inconsistent’ systems of equations.

Next is to learn how to find the solution of a system of linear equations using inverse of a matrix when the matrix is.

We hope your score will improve after following these notes. Share them with your peers.
