CBSE 11th Biology Notes: Types of Animal Tissues

BY Team Aakash Byju's

Tissue - A group of cells that are similar in structure and perform the same function. – The Study of tissues is known as histology. – Animal tissues are classified into four kinds.

Epithelial, Connective Muscular and Nervous Tissue.

Epithelial Tissue:  Epi means outer, and thelium means tissue. It covers the animal body from inside and outside.

Epithelial tissue is of three types. - Squamous Epithelial     tissue. - Cuboidal Epithelial    tissue. - Columnar Epithelial    tissue.

Connective Tissue:  Tissue that connects different parts of the body. It is of different types. They are Areolar, adipose, bone, tendon, ligament, cartilage and blood.

Muscular Tissue:  The tissue that helps in movement is known as muscular tissue. It is of three types. They are striated, non-striated and cardiac muscles.

Functions:  These help in the movement of food in the digestive tract and the movement of blood in blood vessels.

Nervous Tissue:  The tissue that transmits the information is the nervous tissue. It includes the brain, spinal cord and nerves.

Function:  Nervous tissue receives the information from sense organs and passes it to the brain and spinal cord.
