What Role Do Plants Play in Ecological Balance:

Class 7 Science

An ecosystem can be defined as a biological community which includes the biotic components  (plants, animals and micro-organisms etc.) and abiotic components (air, water, sunlight, soil, etc.).

Ecological Balance:

The study of ecosystems is called ‘Ecology’.

Ecological balance refers to the stable balance in the numbers of each pecies in an ecosystem.

An ecosystem includes different kinds of organisms. Among all organisms on the earth, plants are considered the most vital resource.

Plants are responsible for life on earth.

Role of plants in ecological balance:

Plants are the food providers for all living organisms. They prepare food materials through photosynthesis.

They are the habitat for many organisms like insects, birds, monkeys, squirrels etc.

Plants play an important role in maintaining atmospheric oxygen through photosynthesis.

– They regulate the water cycle     and are responsible for timely     rains. –The roots of plants hold the     soil and prevent soil erosion.

Plants refresh the air by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere.

Plants play a major role in maintaining the ecological balance.
