Nomenclature is the process of giving organisms a unique scientific name.

Nomenclature

A naming system in which living organisms are given a name composed of two words. The name denotes genus and the second name denotes species.

Binomial Nomenclature

Carolus Linnaeus introduced the binomial nomenclature in 1758.

For example, the scientific name of human beings is Homo sapiens.

In the above example, homo denotes genus, and sapiens represents species.

It is unique and can be used to identify organisms anywhere in the world.

Importance of Binomial Nomenclature

– The living organisms can be     easily classified. –  It helps to study organisms    easily.

It helps to understand the features of a particular organism.

Each creature has only one distinctive and unique scientific name.
