What are the Parts of a Plant?

A typical flowering plant consists of different parts. These include roots, stems, leaves, buds, flowers and fruit.

 The part of the plant that grows in the soil is known as the root.

Roots absorb water, minerals and nutrients from the soil. Roots fix the plant firmly to the soil.

The part of the plant that grows on the surface of the soil. The stem bears branches, leaves, buds and flowers.

Stem

It transports water from the roots to the branches and leaves, and food materials from the leaves to all parts of the plant.

The leaf is the green, broad and expanded  part of the plant. It is an important part of the plant.

The leaf prepares food materials by the process of photosynthesis.

Bud is small external growth present at the tip of the stem or in the axil of the leaf.

A bud may develop into a new branch, leaf, flower or fruit.

Flower

The flower is the reproductive part of the plant. It is an attractive and colorful part of the plant. It turns into fruit. The flowers' main function is reproduction.

The fleshy part of the plant that develops from the ovary of a flower after the process of fertilisation is known as the fruit.  The fruit is the food storing part of the plant. It bears seeds.

Fruit

A part of the plant that is formed from the ovule of a flower and develops into a new plant is known as a seed. Seeds store food materials.
