Ectotherms are organisms that can change their body temperature depending on the environment.
Example: Fish, amphibians, reptiles
Ectotherms
Endotherms are organisms that have a constant body temperature.
Example:
Birds, mammals, humans.
Endotherms
Ectotherms vs Endotherms
Endotherms
Ectotherms are known as cold-blooded animals, and endotherms are known as warm-blooded animals.
The temperature of ectotherms depends on the environment, whereas the temperature of endotherms is independent of the environment.
Ectotherms cannot generate heat inside their body, whereas endotherms can generate heat in their body.
Ectotherms can exchange heat between their body and surroundings, whereas endotherms cannot exchange heat.
Ectotherms make themselves highly reliant on external heat to maintain their bodies physiologically.
Endotherms generate their heat and, therefore, tolerate a wide range of temperature changes.
