What Are the 3 Types of Fibrous Joints in Human Body?

Fibrous joints are further classified into three categories based on their location.

- Surtures - Gomphosis - Syndesmoses

These joints are made up of a thin layer of dense fibrous connective tissue that is attached to certain skull bones.

Sutures

– Serrate sutures – Denticulate sutures – Squamous sutures – Limbous sutures – Plane sutures – Wedge and groove sutures

Depending upon the shape and mode of fusion of articulating surfaces the sutures are further classified into:

Gomphosis

Location: In the maxilla and mandible.

Syndesmoses

It is a type of fibrous joint wherein the interosseous ligaments connect two separate bones.

Syndesmoses fibrous joints include vertebral joints, coracoclavicular joints and old sacroiliac joints.
