Organization of Animals Based on Structural Characteristics

Despite the fact that there are certain exceptions to the majority of the "rules" guiding animal categorization, scientists have created a classification scheme that groups all the animal kingdom.

Below are the levels of organisation in animals based on patterns of structural characteristics:

The structural and operational unit of every animal and plant is the cell. It consists of different cellular elements that perform the cell's operations.

Cellular Level

Tissues are organic substances that comprise organs and other bodily structures. They are made up of cells and have similar structures and activities.

Tissue Level

The lungs, heart, stomach and other human body organs are formed of two or more types of tissues, each of which performs a specific role.

Organ Level

It is made up of a number of organs that cooperate to carry out single or several duties.

Organ System Level

– Cardiovascular – Lymphatic – Digestive – Endocrine – Muscular – Nervous – Integumentary – Reproductive – Respiratory – Skeletal – Immune – Urinary
