BY Team Aakash Byju's

A plant cell is the functional and structural unit of all plants.  The first cell discovered by Robert Hook in 1665 was a plant cell.

Plant cells are chlorophyll-containing eukaryotic cells belonging to the kingdom Plantae.

Plant cells can manufacture food for themselves and other animals also. They are the food makers of the world.

Plant cells can withstand much greater changes in the surroundings than animal cells.

Plant Cell Parts: The cell wall, plastids and a large vacuole are the unique features of plant cells.

Plant cells are enclosed by a tough, flexible and porous layer. It continuously exchanges information with other cells.

- The cell wall gives protection, mechanical strength and turgor pressure.  - The turgor pressure is the pressure of the cell contents against the cell.

Large vacuoles of plant cells maintain cell acidity, turgor pressure and get rid of wastes through the process of exocytosis.

The chloroplast of plant cells traps sunlight and converts it into chemical energy during photosynthesis.

Chromoplasts are responsible for the coloured parts of plants like flowers and fruits. Leucoplasts store carbohydrates, proteins and oils.

Other organelles of plant cells like the nucleus, ribosomes, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum are similar to animal cells.
