A typical flowering plant has various structures. These include roots, branches, leves, buds, flowers and fruits.

Flower The flower is the colourful, beautiful, attractive and reproductive part of the plant.

Most of the flowering plants have the following  parts - sepals, petals, stamens and pistils.

Stamens are the male parts and the pistil is the female part of a flower.

Stamens Stamens are the male reproductive parts of a flower that are enclosed by petals.

Each stamen has a filament. The filament has an anther on its tip. The anther produces a dust-like substance called pollen.

Pollen Pollen is the yellow coloured dust-like substance produced by anther.

These pollen grains are transferred to the stigma of the same flower or a different flower during pollination.

Stigma The tip of the pistil is known as stigma. The pistil has three parts – the ovary, style and stigma.

The stigma collects pollen grains during pollination and releases a sugary-liquid to germinate pollen grains.
