Introduction to Life Processes

Explain With a Set of Examples

Biological processes necessary for an organism's survival and continuing its life are known as life processes.

Life Processes

Examples: Nutrition, respiration, digestion, excretion, transportation, reproduction, coordination.

Nutrition:

The intake of nutrients by an organism is known as nutrition.

Nutrition is of two types. These include - Autotrophic   - Heterotrophic     Nutrition.

Autotrophs are capable of producing their own food products. Example: plants.

Example: All animals and human beings.

Heterotrophs are organisms which can not prepare their own food materials and depend on other organisms for food.

Respiration is a biological process that includes both inhalation and exhalation. All organisms inhale Oxygen and exhale Carbon dioxide.

Respiration

Breaking down large food molecules into simple substances by digestive enzymes is known as digestion.

Digestion

The digestive system is involved in the digestion of food materials.

Excretion

Kidneys are known as chief excretory organs. They filter the blood and send out the waste in the form of urine.

Eliminating the waste from the body is known as excretion.

The movement of materials from one part to another part of the body is called transportation.

Transportation

In animals and human beings, blood transports digested food materials, hormones, salts and wastes from one part to another part of the body.

In plants, xylem tissue transports water and minerals. Phloem tissue transports food materials.

The process in which the parent organism produces offspring is known as reproduction.

Reproduction

The capacity of the organism to use different organs of the body together smooth and efficient.

Coordination
